Hello and Welcome!

Linza Vargas, MSW, LCSW (she/her)

Hi, I am Linza. I am so happy you are here! I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker practicing in Durango, Colorado. I hold a Master's degree in Clinical Social Work from New Mexico Highlands University. Prior to working in mental health, I spent a decade living and working internationally in social development, specifically working with women seeking to empower themselves and supporting girls in rural areas access education. It was through these experiences that I grew to appreciate the beauty of stepping outside of my comfort zone. While I stepped away from the familiar environments and relationships I had known, I was able to re-write and heal the stories I had about myself and my experiences. I learned to be present and shift my mind away from the labels of good or bad, right or wrong, so I could accept the invitation to be me.

Whether I was in Laos, or Brasil, or anywhere between, I have found myself pulled towards building meaningful human connections. I have dedicated my life to understanding people, often through their stories. I believe that the greatest gift in this life is to be truly witnessed and seen in relationship. I have profound respect for the beauty, the pain and the resiliency that arises from the experience of being human. As a self-identified artist, whose medium does not fit into one category, I am certain there is an art to living a life rooted in authenticity and vulnerability.

Since completing my graduate coursework, I have had the privilege of working in a wide range of clinical settings and serving diverse populations. I have provided mitigation services in State and Federal Courts. I have supervised and operated an integrated behavioral health program at Durango High School, in a school based health clinic. And before opening Holistically Rooted Counseling, I worked in a group practice setting.

At Holistically Rooted Counseling, I weave together my passion for empathetic listening, the belief that we are not alone and we have no bad parts. My therapeutic approach utilizes an attachment and experiential lens that supports my clients in getting ‘unstuck’ emotionally, energetically, mentally, and relationally. It is my goal to support my clients in identifying practical ways to immediately help them move towards living the life they desire. I work with clients to support safety in relationship, so that they can begin to regulate their nervous system in and outside the therapy room. I invite my clients to re-write their stories and see that nothing is broken, or wrong with them. I am committed to offering a non-pathologizing approach at Holistically Rooted Counseling, so my clients can have the felt experience of being understood and see their incredible brilliance.

Therapeutic Philosophy

A Holistic Approach

At the foundation of Holistically Rooted Counseling, is the belief that we are not solely focusing on an event, or a symptom that leads an individual or a family to seek counseling, instead we are exploring the entire system (internally and externally) with curiosity and compassion. I believe in order to provide effective treatment that promotes healing, we need to consider the whole person and the whole family.  I collaborate with you to develop a working knowledge and connection to support your emotional, physical, social and spiritual well-being.

My Mission

I believe that therapy does not have to be intimidating. It takes courage to reach out for support and to allow yourself to be seen; to be vulnerable. As a therapist who has been in the other chair, I am dedicated to providing non-judgmental, inclusive, compassionate and skills-based treatment in each session. My mission is to support you in creating a meaningful and safe relationship with therapy.

My Vision

To create a therapeutic environment that dismantles the shame around mental health. To support you in seeing your inherent worth and goodness regardless of socio-economic status, race, gender, sexual orientation, education, or history. This is my vision and the gift I hope to provide through Holistically Rooted Counseling.

"My mission, should I choose to accept it, is to find peace with exactly who I am. To take pride in my thoughts, my appearance, my talents, my flaws and to stop this incessant worrying that I can't be loved as I am."
